Pottsville schools to purchase new bus

TThe Pottsville school board voted to purchase a new bus from Diamond Bus Sales for $82,290 during Thursday's meeting. The board also voted to allow several overnight trips for students, including:

* We the People trip to Washington D.C.

* FBLA State competition at Little Rock

* FCCLA state competition at Little Rock

* East Server Administration Training at Little Rock

Ryan Staggs was approved for employment as assistant football and baseball coach and teacher. The board also accepted the resignation of Javier Taylor as high school math teacher. All current certified personnel will be reemployed for the 07-08 school year. The board voted to allow the following change orders at Pottsville Junior High School:

* Water regulator and electrical changes in the amount of $11,921.02

* Stage curtain in the amount of $13, 220.

Student transfers included kindergartener Dustin Martin and 10th grader Hannah Williamson, both from Russellville. The proposed school calendar for the 07-08 school year was approved. In other business:

* the board recognized the senior girl's basketball team for its successful year;

* Jennifer Curry and Samantha Prince were recognized as the only two recipients of the National Business Educators Assocation Scholarship. The board voted to allow Curry and Prince to attend the NBEA conference to receive their award.

* The purchase of overhead projectors for twelve classrooms in the Middle School was approved. The purchase will be made from ProMAS. The Middle School PTO will provide the majority of the funding. The March students of the month were also recognized during the meeting. They were Masha Branch, 2nd grade; Quinn LeBahn, 4th grade; Nathan Overton, 7th grade; Amber and Brewer, 12th grade.
