Pinion-McNabb hired at Russellville Junior High
Carin Pinion-McNabb’s resignation as Hector girls basketball and boys and girls track coach was accepted by the school board at a special meeting Monday, Aug. 6.
She will teach health and physical education at Russellville Junior High School.
Pinion-McNabb won honors as a player at Atkins High School and Arkansas Tech University, where her teams won two national NAIA championships and she was named to the All-America team as a point guard. She previously coached at Pottsville High School and Arkansas Tech.
She had coached at Hector for two years.
After a 20-minute executive session, the board voted to hire Jim Simmons as a replacement for Pinion-McNabb. Simmons was boys basketball coach at Newport from 2003 to 2005.
He previously had coached boys and girls basketball at Gentry (1962-65), Charleston (1966-81), Carl Albert University in Poteau, Okla., (1988-93), Beebe (1994-96), Waldron (1996-98), and Mountainburg (1999-2001).
The board also was told by Superintendent Karen Smith that the elementary principal’s office has been moved from the dome to the middle school breezeway area, to allow the school to lock the outer gates once students are dropped off, making the campus more secure.
All board members were present except Don Freeman and Sherry Selman, including President Terry Epperson, Todd Fountain, and Tony Haley.
