Quorum Court refers hour change to committee

Pope County Courthouse hours won't change, pending action by a committee, the Quorum Court decided at its monthly meeting Thursday.

The hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. They were changed from 8 to 5 last year partly as money-saving measure to reduce utility costs. Employees still work 40 hours a week.

After a lengthy discussion, the JPs referred it to the Personnel Committee to get more input and report back to the court. Justice Don Daily, chairman of the committee, scheduled a meeting for 6 p.m. Supt. 5.

Justice Madelyn Ginsburg raised the issue, saying she had complaints that the reduced hours made it difficult for some people to get into the courthouse to conduct their business.

Other action at the meeting included:

reappointing Jo Ford to the Ambulance Board for a 5-year term

reappointing Chris Vincent to the E911 Board for a 3-year term

an announcement by County Agent Phil Sims that a appreciation dinner for the court members will be held Sept. 7

several transfers of funds for part-time salaries.
