The Pottsville Jr. Apaches (24-0) completed an undefeated season with a 28-25 win over the Ozark Jr. Hillbillies, Thursday (2-11) at the 4A-4 District Tournament at Pottsville.
Pottsville eased to a 4-point lead after the first quarter of play, 8-4, and took 14-13 lead into the half-time break. The Jr. Apaches outscored Ozark 9-5 in the third quarter stretching the lead to 5 points, 23-18, and held on in the fourth quarter to escape with the 3-point win.
Spencer Bradley scored 8 points, Logan Porter scored 7 points, Rylee Huie scored 7 points, Wesley Heikes scored 4 points, and Mason Huie scored 2 points for the Jr. Apaches.
“This was the fourth time we have played Ozark this season and every game has been a battle to the end. I was so proud of the guys effort on defense tonight. That is what won us the game on a night where we didn’t shoot very well and turned it over too much. It’s really just been an unbelievable season. The guys set one goal before we started going to summer camps last summer and that was to go undefeated. I don’t think they even realize how special this is or how hard it is to do. They stayed hungry and worked so hard all season long to get where they are. It will be something that we all will remember forever. It was a real privilege to be their coach”, stated Coach Garrett Hill.
