Pirate football coaches
have Atkins connections
Chris
Taylor of Atkins has been promoted to Head Football Coach for the Dover
Pirates. Taylor
will move up from his previous position as assistant defensive coordinator to
take on the leadership role. He will also serve as head track coach.
Getting to
know his new assistant will not be a problem for Taylor. His brother, Mark Taylor of
Russellville, will fill that position. Joining the Taylor brothers will be Coach Mcgee who will return as special teams coach.
Chris
played quarterback during his college years at Arkansas Tech
University. He began his
coaching career in Atkins and worked under Coach Charlie Sorrells.
He assumed
the position of assistant football coach in Dover following the resignation of Coach Jim
Beck.
Mark
Taylor has served as assistant offensive coach in Danville.
He worked as a Graduate assistant at Tech and then worked two seasons at
UAM before coaching in Danville. Mark is certified to teach health and
physical education and has just received his middle school certification. He
will also serve as an assistant coach for a spring sport and teacher at Dover.
Chris and
his wife, Jessica, have two children, 3 year-old son, Harrison and a
one-year-old, daughter, Josie. They are expecting their third child in
November.
Mark and
his wife, Brooke, have a 10-month-old son, Jackson.
There is
still one more football coach in the Taylor
family, Chris and Mark’s brother, Brent, is an assistant coach in Pottsville.
Chris said
that working with his brother would not be a problem. “We are together a lot,”
he said. The Taylor’s attend First Baptist
Church in Atkins.
They are
the sons of Rev. Ira and Jo Taylor of Atkins.
Chris Taylor said that he plans to treat his
players fairly. “I expected them to work hard and at the same time have fun.” Taylor
said that he has high expectations for the team.
