Clayton Partain
Clayton Alex Partain, 78, of Atkins, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008, at his home.
He was born on Aug. 28, 1929, at Pleasant Grove near Dover to James Alexander “Alec” and Lucy Ann Clayton Partain.
He was a United States Army veteran and a retired member of the Carpenter’s Union. He was an avid fox hunter and was a member of the Pope County Fox Hunter’s Association. He attended the Mt. View Free Will Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents and seven sisters, Minnie Dale, Ivy Ragsdale, Rosey Murphy, Lillie Merritt, Ruby Harris, Loyal Jones, and Mary Juanita Partain.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Norma Fern Minks Partain of Atkins; three daughters, Debbie Duvall and her husband, Hank, of Hattieville, Pam Duvall and Bill Barber of Dover, and Judy Partain of Atkins; five granddaughters, Kim Thurman, Natasha Gullett and her husband, Shane, Alisha Warren and her husband, Todd, Heather Midwell, and Sarah LaRue; a grandson, Jeremy Clayton LaRue and his wife, Ashleigh; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews, nieces, and friends.
Funeral services were Tuesday at Shinn Chapel with the Rev. Hank Duvall and the Rev. David Owens officiating. Burial with military honors provided by the Veteran’s of Foreign War Rogers-Rye Post 2283, was in Pollard Cemetery under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service.
Active pallbearers were Charles Burris, Todd Warren, Jeremy LaRue, Shane Gullett, Bill Barber, and Bill Duvall. Honorary pallbearers were Dorsey “Buddy” Light and Cleburne Ford.
