The Dover School Board signed the papers Monday night to enable the $3,595,000 bond issue (dated Feb. 1) that will provide
funds for the new elementary
school complex
to be built on a 40-acre plot on North Elizabeth
Street. The district expects to have a bit more than $10,000,000 for the construction
when money from the State of Arkansas is added.
The Hector City Council has passed an ordinance limiting the weight of trucks on city streets to 30,000 pounds. The council decided the ordinance was needed because trucks with gas well drilling
equipment will be using the streets to drill a gas well in the city limits, according to minutes of the council meeting Thursday, Feb. 15.
The Dover Junior High Pirates will go down in history. The 2006-07 junior high team is the new co-conference champions and district champions. Even though they share the conference title with Clinton (both teams have a record of 6-1 in conference), the Pirates are still extremely happy with the successful season they have accomplished.

Adrielle Churchill, a senior at Dover High School, has been named a finalist in the National Merit Scholarship Program by officials of the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Finalists must have very high academic performance in college preparatory
course work, submit SAT scores which confirm the PSAT/NMSQT performance, write a self-descriptive essay and must be fully endorsed and recommended by their high school principal
Parking on some of Dover’s streets has become a potential problem which could impede emergency vehicles accessing residents
in need. Kaeli Cove, Cedar Creek and Ruff St. are among those which are being evaluated for parking limitations.
The directors of the Dover School Board voted to re-hire their administrators for another year. This includes all principals, as well as the athletic director and the Federal Programs Coordinator.
The Dover Jr. Lady Pirates defeated Lamar in a free-throw dependent 38-36 match to win the 5AAA District Tournament

Bill Jones has announced his candidacy for Pope County Quorum Court Justice of the Peace, District 5. The district includes Bayliss, Clark in and out, and Martin Township. Jones is a graduate of Dover High School.
The Dover Fire Department’s new truck, which arrived the last week of January, has answered one call: a chimney fire at Alderman
Roger Lee’s house.
The Hector Police Department will act to add more hours of protection after an inquiry by the owner of a 24-hour store which was violently robbed.
The Hector Senior Girls won the 5A North District Tournament following an intense 70-68 game against Arkansas Baptist.

George Over, 27, who recently moved here from Dardanelle, was injured Monday night in a one-care accident west of Dardanelle on Highway 22.
Andy Wiley, a senior at Atkins High School, was awarded the position of first chair baritone in the first band at all-state band clinic held last weekend at Arkansas
Tech.
Sheriff Bill Abernathy announced that a $500 reward is being offered for information adding to the arrest and conviction
of the person or personas responsible for the theft of an electric water well pump stolen near Atkins.
A roll of counterfeit money containing $540 dollars was found here Friday morning.

The Reverend Mr. Tom Nation, pastor of the Atkins Methodist Church, and the Reverend Mr. Rayburn Jackson, Methodist minister
from Atkins, left Tuesday for Fayetteville where they will attend the Town and Country Seminar at the University of Arkansas through Friday of this week.
Mrs. Charles K. Baker arrived in Little Rock Tuesday night by plane from Montreal, Quebec, Canada and was met there by Mr. Baker who brought her here to her new home.
John E. Peters, 68, former Atkins citizen, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Marion Bunton of Russellville, route one, Tuesday, Feb. 11.
Andrew Henry Ferguson, aged 85, a native of Pottsville and well- known lawyer and jurist, died at Russellville, Feb. 18, 1958.
The World Day of Prayer will be observed locally at the Methodist
church Friday, February 21.

Wilburn Duff Walker, 24, of Atkins, was killed last Monday when the truck he was driving collided
head on with an automobile near Pryor, Okla.
Thieves broke into the J. M. Maus Store here Tuesday night, stealing a large quantity of flour and a small amount of change left in a cash register.
John Rousell, 68, Spanish-American War veteran, died at his home here Wednesday morning after an extended illness.
A number of outstanding singers
will be at the community singing at the Baptist church here Sunday afternoon, beginning at 2 p.m.
Mrs. Abbie L. Powers of Atkins has been informed by the War Department that her son, Pvt. Earnest Powers is a prisoner of the Japanese.
