Rev.
George Wilson Sleeker
Rev. George Wilson Sleeker, 83,
of Pineville, Ky.,
formerly of Adrian, Mich.
passed away on Sunday, May 21, 2006 at the Pineville Community
Hospital.
He was born June 15, 1922, to
Homer and Eva Ina (Jobe) Sleeker. Rev. Sleeker was an
ordained Baptist minister and had pastured several churches including Trinity Baoptist
Church, Calvary
Baptist Church
and Bethal Baptist Church,
all in Adrian, Mich. He served in the U.S. Army during
World War II. He was a member of Old Yellow Creek
Baptist Church
in Middlesboro, Ky.
and enjoyed attending Pump Springs Baptist in Harrogate, Ky.,
and First Baptist of Barbourville in Kentucky.
He was a retired school teacher, having taught for sand Creek Community Schools
from 1964-1982. He also taught in western Kentucky,
Michigan, and at the Oneida Baptist
School in Clay County,
Ky. He was also a professor at the Clear
Creek Baptist
Bible College
in Kentucky,
where his interests included instructing students about the Bible and prophecy.
In addition to his parents he
was preceded in death by his brothers, Webster and Paul Sleeker; and sisters,
Mary Ellen Sweden and Hazel Burgess.
Rev. Sleeker is survived by his
wife of 49 years, Barbara Jean Puckett Sleeker of Pineville, Ky.; a son, George
Wilson Sleeker II and his wife, Lorene, of Adrian, Mich.; three grandchildren, Lynia Sleeker (Rudy) Garza, Amy Lynn Sleeker and Elijah
Carey Sleeker, all of Adrian; a sister-in-law, Christine Sleeker of Little
Rock; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held
Friday, May 26, 2006 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Adrian with Pastor Bill VanValkenburg
officiating. Interment was in Fairfield
Cemetery with full
military rites conducted by V.F.W. AnnisFint Post
